Mindflex GameMindflex Game – Is Mattel's Mindflex A Game, A Toy Or Something Else ?

The Mindflex game that was released at the beginning of this year raised the odd eyebrow at the Consumer Electronics show held in Las Vegas. What exactly was the Mindflex, a trivial game, a castaway toy or something a touch more meaningful. Well, lets go into what it is to begin with.

The Mattel Mindflex Game is simple in its purpose. The player has to move a purple foam ball around a rather bizarre looking obstacle course. The course is specifically designed for the ball. It features hoops, tunnels, funnels and even a see saw that fits the dimensions of the ball. The ball will fit through then perfectly provided the skill of the player can control the balls movement.

However controlling the balls movement is where the innovation comes in. You see, you control the ball using your brainwaves. Huh ? How does that work ? Well the game comes with a headset that is strapped just above the eyebrows and two clips that attach to the ears. These devices are supposed to measure the strength of the persons brainwaves. This is fed back to the game and can influence how the ball is moved.

Apparently you can do exercises that improve your ability to control the balls, in terms of speed, direction and agility. All in all, it sounds quite intriguing.

There are 5 obstacle courses that the game can be set up for, including one where you shoot the ball to hit a target. If you get sick of these courses you can make your own, as the pieces are easy to change and configure.

Above all, Mindflex is a game that can be played as an individual against the clock. Or it can be played with friends by getting the best time (no racing unfortunately, but this might be a modification as consumers have listed this as a potentially exciting feature). It's listed as ideal for kids 8 years and upwards so it could make an ideal toy too for Christmas or a birthday. However, it might even help to improve your concentration and various other mental abilities. I don't think you will develop the power of telekinesis, but maybe a few more mental abilities that will hold you in good stead in regular life.

Above all, a well thought out game and well worth checking out.
